Then a few weeks ago, she and I were both having a rough day--both of us short on patience. At the end of the day I let her watch a video so that I could have some alone time and get re-centered, asking God for an extra dose of patience. When her video was finished I asked Faith to sit at the table so we could "talk." "Sure Mommy," she responded.
I started by saying, "We've had kind of a hard day today, huh?"
"Yeah, Mommy we have." I ask, "What do you think has made it a hard day?"
"Well, I wasn't listening to Mommy."
"That does make for a hard day, huh? But do you know what? Mommy has hard days too. Mommy has had a rough day today too."
With big blue eyes she responds, "Mommy, you know, I always love you, no matter what, but sometimes....you are grumpy."
Sweet girl. The truth of it brought tears to my eyes.
"You are so right. Sometimes Mommy is grumpy too. I'm sorry for being grumpy. Do you forgive me?"
"Sure Mommy."
I so often hear God's love in terms of a mother's love for her child. While I of course agree, lately I have been seeing God's love and grace just as much in terms of a child's love for her mother (and daddy :) ).
We have rough days too. She has this "mean" or "grumpy" voice she has started using. She still has a compulsion to bite sometimes...which she is learning to control... :)
Faith knows her letters and thier sounds and lately has started drawing some letters on her magnadoodle. She says her prayers before she goes to bed....we pray for all sorts of things and people. A couple nights ago she was praying with Nate and instead of saying the people, she would point and he had to figure it out. They ended up asking God to take care of every family member in our house and the wall? She loves her baby sister and Hamilton. She is spunky and sweet. We've decided passionate is a good descriptor for Faith. She is a passionate child. We love you Faithers.
